Westinghouse WGen9500DF Dual Fuel Portable Generator

Welcome to Westinghouse WGen9500DF review. The Westinghouse Wgen9500df is a powerful portable generator with dual fuel functionality. This generator set is supplied with a rugged 457 cc Westinghouse OHV 4-stroke engine. This Westinghouse outdoor generator set is economical and efficient. The optional fuel source is useful when gasoline or propane is difficult to access.

However, few generator set owners have complained of cosmetic damage and fuel leaks during transport. The operating noise is tolerable, but not very quiet. The Westinghouse Wgen9500df has an excellent peak power of 12,500 watts and 9,500 watts in gasoline operation. When used with propane, it generates 11,200 watts and 8,500 watts during operation.

Westinghouse Outdoor Power Equipment WGen9500DF Dual Fuel Portable GeneratorThis power is enough to run most of your equipment and tools. You can have an air conditioner, refrigerator, sump pump, entertainment center, etc. with this generator. This generator ensures a smooth camping and hiking experience. It can also run power tools and serve your construction sites well. A larger tank size means more fuel, which ensures a longer run time but also affects the weight and portability of the generator. So bigger is not always better.

The Westinghouse Wgen9500df has a fuel tank capacity of 6.6 gallons of gasoline and a 20-pound propane tank. This generator has a built-in fuel gauge. The Westinghouse Wgen9500df has a 12 hour run time on a single fuel tank at 50% load. It can run for up to 7 hours at half load when running on propane. This generator can help you overcome overnight power failure in one tank. Refueling the generator at night is a headache. You can spill gasoline, and the smell of gasoline will make your night hell.

The alternative fuel type will be required if any of the fuel supplies are interrupted. Natural disasters have sometimes resulted in gasoline shortages. Generator emissions contain harmful gases and particles. One of these gases is carbon monoxide, also known as the silent killer. Carbon monoxide alone causes hundreds of deaths each year.

The Westinghouse Wgen9500df is an EPA and CARB compliant generator. Do not place your generator in an area with restricted air circulation, such as a basement. The Westinghouse Wgen9500df generates an operating noise of 74 DB. This nose height is a bit louder than a running vacuum cleaner. Such a powerful generator makes noise.

  1. Matt and Julie says:

A really powerful whole house generator. 12.5 kw. Ordered online and received on time. Simple assembly. Came with required oil. Easy pairing of remote. Connected propane cylinder, flipped the battery switch and hit start on remote. Fired right up. Quiet enough you don’t hear it from inside. Used it to charge golf cart battery for an hour 4 times to break it in. After 4+ hours felt like it used less than half the propane. Should be ready for the next hurricane.

  2. Sharp and smart. I bought the 9500df unit after a series of tornados left us without power for days. There are few generators out there that fulfilled my wish list. As to add more value for purchasing a generator, I wanted one that could not only could power our home in a outage, as that really doesn’t happen very often, and power our 37′ camper. As just a couple months back our campground power was knocked out when a tractor took out an electric pole. The 9500 comes with 50amp service plug, perfect for our camper.
Unboxing and just glancing this is a sharp looking and well built unit. Assembling the foot pegs and wheels is so easy, even a cave man could do it. It was nice they ship it with all you need to assemble it but found the wrench to be tedious so I used my ratchet instead. The instructions read well and are simple to follow, and the unit fired up right away with a touch from the key fob remote start.
I have yet to try running the house, but did test run it using on the camper… it ran the 15,000 btu a/c and 2 refrigerators without a hiccup. I didn’t run 2nd a/c as unit was not “broke in” yet but looking at the numbers it could run that as well. As it is nigh winter here I also ran the furnace with no problems and the electric fireplace. My only gripe with this unit is the placing of the 50 amp receptacle, as 50 amp cords are big and rv power cords are 90 degrees from plug. The 50 amp plug is positioned above the wheels of the unit and it can be a little struggle to get plugged in. Looking at the face of unit with all the outlets, it looks like the 50 amp service could be raised on future models to help this out, although it may not be as aesthetically appearing as having them all lined up.
Overall great unit with plenty of outlets, on occasion I volunteer for habitat for humanity, there’s no need to have splitters or unplug one tool to operate another as you can easily run separate cords to different work stations and still have an outlet to charge tool batteries. And the folding handles and wheels allow the unit to be moved easily if need be, even through grass.

A generator for running the house. I bought this product whereas the last Texas winter storm froze us out of our residence. On initial startup the system is working and I ran a vacuum from one of its GFI outlets. I intend to have my house outfitted so as to run my electrical panel from the generators power. The product did come defected with one of the leg nuts missing. It appears the soldering job was sub par. The nut was not in the box so it did not break off during shipping. One of the stabilizing legs will not properly hold due to this flaw.

  4. It works! A heavy unit but does the job!
For assembly, it’s easierby flipping the unit sideways to install the wheels n stands. Hook n it runs. Have not tested it for full house power supply yet, will come back to updated.
    So far so good!
No more worries of power shutdown by the tyrants. We got our own power and we stand up for our freedom!

  5. Prof. Rich says:

Great features & easy set up. The generator and accessories arrived in perfect condition. The included plastic pad made it easy to tip the unit on its side to attach the wheels and rubberized supports. Then, the long folding handle made it easy to bring up the steps and onto the back porch!

The instructions are very clear and it came with everything needed, including a power supply to charge the starting battery, propane hookup, and a fob for remote start. It even came with oil and a funnel! I like how it can run off gasoline or propane as we have both on hand, this being a somewhat rural area.

I purchased a 14-50P (50A RV) to 4x120V 20A adapter. This is perfect as there are 4 areas in the house requiring power. One of the two GFI outlets will be available for the livestock water tank de-icer and I appreciate the safety factor.

The maintenance schedule is reasonable although checking valve clearance after 100 hours of use (or every 6 months) seems a bit frequent. 100 hours is only 4 days, 4 hours, and power outages in this region have gone this long before. However, checking/adjusting valve clearance is very clearly stated in the manual. If you have a feeler gauge and torque wrench it should be no problem.

Awesome purchase. Definitely is a must to buy.. I just received my item today it was definitely a goodbye I recommend it to anyone who’s looking to purchase a generator. Best part about it is it to view it started up right away with propane and with you. In the remote start not a bad thing either..
